The Fall: Season 1

The Fall: Season 1The Fall 'BBC 2's biggest new drama since 2006'

According to figures provided by BARB, The Fall had an average of around 3.5 million viewers. This easily topped the channels standard slot average of 1.79million and makes it the channels biggest original drama series since records began in 2006.

Critics were overwhelmingly positive towards the first season with The Guardian stating '"Thoughtful, brooding, clever, tense, bleak, character-based, but also scary as hell, there's something of the Scandi shows about The Fall then. Celtic noir? Move over Denmark, Belfast is the new Copenhagen? Could be."

The Fall, originally shown on BBC 2 and now available on DVD, is a gripping psychological thriller set in Belfast, and tells the story of two hunters. One is a serial killer who stalks and then murders his victims, and the other,  a talented female detective (played by Gillian Anderson) who sets out to capture him. Over the course of the five episodes we get a harrowing insight into the mind of serial killer Paul Spector (Jamie Doran) as he hunts his victims while trying to maintain a seemingly normal family life. The show has an all-star cast that also includes John Lynch, Archie Panjabi, Gerard McCarthy and Bronagh Waugh.

The Fall was Directed by Jakob Verbruggen, Written by Allan Cubitt, and Edited by Steve Singleton who was assisted by Helen Sheridan. 5.1 Sound was mixed in Yellowmoon’s Dolby room by Colin Martin and Paul Maynes – picture finishing was completed by Jonny Fetherston. The series was  produced by Julian Stevens, and Gub Neal of Artists Studio.
